The Story
With this Tortilla artwork, I give homage to Diego Rivera’s series of paintings featuring indigenous women selling Calla lilies, or Alcatraces as they are called in Spanish. I added the rolling pin to symbolize the process of tortilla preparation. The Calla lily, a sensual, sculptured flower, is a quintessential example of Mexico’s exuberant flora.
